Water
Every 15 seconds a child dies because their water is not safe to drink. Globally, at least 2 billion people use a drinking water source contaminated with faeces causing a lot of preventable deaths.
Health
In 2018, 6.2 million children under the age of 15 years died, mostly from preventable causes. Of these deaths, 5.3 million occurred in the first 5 years, with almost half of these in the first month of life.
Education
One of the first steps in overcoming poverty is receiving an education. If all students in low-income countries gained basic reading skills, 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty.
Food
There are 821.6 million people who are chronically undernourished. In fact, 11.3% of the world’s population is hungry. That’s roughly 805 million people who go undernourished on a daily basis.
Moral Support
Poverty increases the risk of mental health problems and can be both a causal factor and a consequence of mental ill health. It was found that poverty was a severe cause of depression.
